The Opportunity

The Organisation:
Ellwood Atfield are proud to be partnering with a health regulator based in

central London.

About the role:
The Senior Public Affairs Officer will be responsible for building and developing relationships with political stakeholders across the UK to strengthen the organisations ability to regulate effectively, support professionals and influence to improve health and care for the benefit of the public. You’ll work as part of a collaborative public affairs team as well as working with senior internal and external stakeholders. You’ll gather and share political intelligence with the organisation to inform the delivery of the organisations corporate priorities, policy development and communications and engagement activity.

Main responsibilities:

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with political stakeholders across the four nations of the UK.
  • Contribute to the mapping and analysis of key strategic relationships with government departments and political stakeholders in all four nations of the UK.
  • Gather intelligence from political stakeholders to inform future work and support wider engagement by senior colleagues and teams across the organisation.
  • Work with senior colleagues to develop and maintain positive relationships with political and government stakeholders to support policy development.
  • Develop and implement engagement plans using audience insight, knowledge of the current political context, political processes and influencing techniques.
  • Proactively provide intelligence on upcoming legislation across the UK, including advice and alerts on regulatory and health matters, working with colleagues in the public affairs team and liaising with other teams as needed.
  • Produce high quality briefing materials, letters and presentations for use in stakeholder interactions, working with other colleagues in the public affairs team and wider organisation.
  • Attend a variety of public affairs, public engagement and health and care sector meetings and events to broaden stakeholder engagement.
  • Experience of working in a public affairs/government/external relations function.
  • Knowledge of UK parliamentary procedure and key events in the parliamentary timetable
  • Good political judgement, ability to horizon scan, analyse and understand the political context.
  • Experience of understanding and influencing policy development.
  • Experience of devising and delivering engagement plans.
  • Ability to prepare, interpret and present complex information to a wide variety of internal and external stakeholders, orally and in writing.
  • Salary up to £43,000
  • Hybrid working (1 day based in the office)
