The Opportunity
The organisation
Ellwood Atfield are delighted to have partnered with a housing association in the London area, who are looking for a Public Affairs Executive.
The housing association is responsible for providing affordable housing for residents of London, the South East and East of England, whilst offering a variety of care and support services. This includes support to older residents, and support to marginalised or vulnerable adults. The organisation has a strong record of influencing policy to the benefit of residents and the wider housing sector.
The opportunity
As a Public Affairs Executive, you will be responsible for promoting the strategic interests of the housing sector and advocating for positive policy changes on behalf of residents. You will contribute to stakeholder engagement activities and keep track of political developments relevant to the housing sector.
Main responsibilities
- Develop a detailed understanding of relevant public policy issues, and the national, regional and local political environment pertaining to the housing sector.
- Produce compelling public affairs content that improves understanding of the organisation and promotes the needs of residents(e.g. case studies, data sets, research, blogs, consultation responses, comment, talking points, briefings, visit plans).
- Produce stakeholder maps to support engagement whilst representing the organisation at external events.
- Prepare briefing materials and speeches for senior staff including the Chief Executive.
- Conduct political research and monitor the political and public policy environment, identifying issues which may impact the organisation and its residents.
Person Specification
- Demonstrable flair for impactful messaging. Able to develop clear and succinct messaging from complex material.
- Adopts a strategic partnering approach providing high-quality advice, challenge and support, and ensuring effective collaboration and coordination.
- Able to clearly express ideas verbally and in writing, listen actively, and engage effectively at all levels.
- The ability to strategically analyse situations, identify issues, and develop effective solutions through critical thinking and creativity.
- Ability to adjust to new situations and challenges with a positive attitude, demonstrating flexibility in thought and action.
- Works collaboratively at all levels to solve problems, develop solution and deliver positive outcome.
- Works with drive and energy and is prepared to find new and better ways of doing things.
- Able to appreciate a range of views and opinions and offer advice to suit varying situations and needs.
