The Opportunity

The organisation

Ellwood Atfield are delighted to have partnered with a housing association in the London area, who are looking for a Press Officer.

The housing association is responsible for providing affordable housing for residents of London, the South East and East of England, whilst offering a variety of care and support services. This includes support to older residents, and support to marginalised or vulnerable adults. The organisation has a strong record of influencing policy to the benefit of residents and the wider housing sector.

The opportunity

As a Press Officer, you be responsible for raising awareness of the housing association and the services it provides to tenants. The key focus of this role is to enhance audience engagement, keeping them informed of developments within the housing sector, whilst updating the wider public on policy positions and successes.

Key responsibilities

  • Develop a strong understanding of the key issues driving the housing sector and needs of residents.
  • Create engaging press material which enables stakeholders and key audiences to engage with the work of the housing association.
  • Work with colleagues to articulate external influencing priorities, and to develop core scripts, positioning, narratives, reactive comment and present data on a range of issues.
  • Provide a range of content including press releases, social media and website posts, op-eds and proactive and reactive press comments  
  • Regularly monitor media and provide analysis of the media landscape affecting the housing sector; helping to identify opportunities and risks.
  • Build strong working relationships with journalists.
  • Contribute to the creation of communications strategy.

Person Specification

  • Strong written communication skills, with an ability to communicate complex information in an accessible manner.
  • Possessing a strategic approach to media relations, linking media activity to company objectives.
  • Adept at using audience insight and data to inform Communications and Media strategy and measuring the success of the existing media strategy.
  • Interest in societal issues.
  • Proficiency in using various communications platforms and tools (including social media, web content management systems, and design software such as Canva).
