Drive Strategic Impact in a Leading Trade Association


The organisation

Join an exciting trade association as their Policy & Public Affairs Director. As a senior leader, you will shape and implement the organisation’s 3-year policy and public affairs strategy, working closely with the CEO to deliver organisational objectives. This role involves engaging with stakeholders, policy makers, and influencers on critical issues such as skills & apprenticeships, business rates, renewable energy, and technology.

The opportunity

The appointed individual will play a pivotal role in directing policy and public affairs activities, representing members’ interests, and fostering effective relationships with local and national politicians. You’ll lead a small team and collaborate closely with the leadership to ensure the organization remains at the forefront of industry developments.

Main responsibilities

  • Build and maintain effective relationships with stakeholders, including politicians and civil servants
  • Lead a team of policy and public affairs professionals and contribute to the organisation's leadership
  • Develop and deliver a comprehensive program of policy and campaigning aligned with strategic goals
  • Lead the development of policies, consultation responses, and engagement strategies for influential relationships.
  • Strengthen advisory boards focused on key areas including people, skills and environment.

Key skills and experience required

  • Proven political experience engaging with policymakers at Westminster and across the UK’s devolved administrations.
  • A collaborative leadership style with a track record of building strong internal and external partnerships.
  • Strategic thinker with the ability to deliver impactful outcomes.
  • Experience in synthesizing diverse inputs into sound policy positions.
  • Skilled communicator and public speaker, adept at engaging with both membership and political audiences.

This role offers a competitive package including a salary of £50,000-£60,000, 8% pension, a discretionary 25% bonus, and 25 days of holiday. It is a full-time position with hybrid working options and UK travel.
