Ellwood Atfield are proud to be partnering with Parentkind who are looking for a Head of Public Affairs and Policy on a permanent basis. Parentkind is an ambitious, national level charity which works with over 23,500 Parent Teacher Associations (PTAs), schools and Parent Councils. Parentkind is one of the UK’s largest parent charities and is the voice of parents in education. Parentkind works with PTAs to help them to grow and do more to help their schools. The Policy and Research department publishes the National Parent Survey, the UK’s largest annual parent poll to give parents a voice in policy debates.

The opportunity

Parentkind are looking for a highly ambitious and proactive individual to support the charity’s engagement work in Whitehall and Westminster. This is a newly created role; the ideal candidate will have extensive experience in leading public affairs campaigns either within the education sector or related societal issue.

This is a home working role with the expectation of regular meetings in Central London. Candidates need to be comfortable working remotely.

Main responsibilities

  • Overseeing the work of the All Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) for Parents whilst raising awareness in Parliament.
  • Organising events in Westminster to communicate research, and policy positions.
  • Leading political and stakeholder engagement activity to ensure Parentkind have strong relationships with relevant stakeholders.
  • Support parent research, including polling of parents and making policy recommendations based on this research.
  • Contributing to developing a strategy to raise the profile of Parentkind amongst parent communities while increasing the number of engaged MPs.
  • Maintaining and developing records of stakeholder engagement.

Key skills

  • Significant experience of working in a political or policy environment in Westminster.
  • Experience of organising policy led events such as roundtables, dinners/lunches, panel events and report launches.
  • A strong understanding of the work of All Parliamentary Groups in UK Parliament with a good overall exposure to Parliamentary processes.
  • Adept in briefing political audiences and representing an organisation.
  • Proven record of building strategically valuable, high-level stakeholder relationships.
  • Strong communicator, able to engage with a broad audience.
  • Ability to work at pace against competing priorities.
  • Comfortable working remotely.
