The Opportunity

About the Role

An exciting opportunity has opened for an experienced Communications Manager to support the performance and transformation of a FTSE 100 company in the transport sector. The role focuses on influencing the media environment and driving awareness through corporate communications, working with key teams on campaigns that emphasise the company’s innovation, sustainability, and economic contributions.

 

Key Responsibilities

 

  • Campaign Development: Work with corporate affairs and sustainability teams to devise and execute memorable, high-impact communication campaigns.
  • Content Creation: Identify speaking opportunities and prepare briefing materials, speeches, and other communications for senior leadership.
  • Strategy and Media Relations: Contribute to the company’s brand narrative and reputation through creative strategy, emphasising innovation and performance.
  • Financial Communications: Support delivery of Group financial results, preparing media and digital communications plans and writing English-language financial materials.
  • Media Liaison: Act as a media spokesperson, responding to enquiries, managing issues, and handling media crises with prepared statements and briefings.
  • Alignment and Collaboration: Work closely with other communications teams across the Group to ensure consistent messaging and collaboration on key initiatives.
  • Policy and Stakeholder  Engagement:  Coordinate with government affairs to create media engagements that support policy and stakeholder objectives in the UK.
  • Media Relationships and Reporting: Build media relationships in key markets and compile quarterly reports to drive effective communication strategies.
  • Internal Communications Support: Support internal communications efforts when needed.

 

Required Skills and Experience

 

  • Experience: Extensive background in corporate communications and media relations.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent written English; capable of simplifying complex topics.
  • Media Relations: Skilled in media spokesperson duties and issues management, with experience in briefing senior spokespeople.
  • Project Ownership: A self-starter who can think strategically and creatively, managing end-to-end projects effectively.
  • Confidentiality: Diplomatic and discrete, with experience handling sensitive information.
  • Analytical Skills: Understanding of communications measurement and evaluation to drive effectiveness.
