The Organisation

The British Pest Control Association(BPCA) is an award-winning UK trade association for pest management and the public health pest control industry. We provide support and a voice within the sector to over 750 member companies and 10,000 affiliates, with a c. £2m turnover.

Our members protect the public and businesses from damage and contamination by pests, covering the whole supply chain from manufacturers and distributors of pest control products, servicing companies and consultants.

BPCA members represent the gold standard in pest management, delivering 80% of all professional pest control services in the UK. The market value in the UK is £700million, with 1,500 pest control companies employing over 7000 people, they perform a vital role in protecting public health, food safety, and property.

 

Together with its members, the Association works with policymakers, public health agencies, regulators, and other key stakeholders to ensure that pest management delivers environmental, social, and economic benefits while maintaining the highest standards of safety and effectiveness.

The Opportunity

The new Chief Executive Officer (CEO) will guide the BPCA in its role to transform pest management for a sustainable future. The CEO will champion the interests of the sector, projecting a clear and persuasive, evidence-based voice, aimed at successfully influencing government policy and industry standards towards sustainable pest management practices.

The role will enhance all elements of the BPCA's accumulated capital, including membership growth, financial stability, professional development programs, industry reputation, and continuous improvement of member benefits. It will work with members to elevate industry standards and promote innovation in environmentally responsible pest control solutions.

Responsibilities include:

  • Develop and implement comprehensive short, medium and long-term strategies, business plans and policies, in consultation with relevant stakeholders within and outside of the Association.
  • Lead, motivate, develop and coach the team to achieve excellence in delivery and to ensure the right level of technical expertise, regulatory knowledge and engagement are maintained across the Association.
  •  Represent the Association and its members' interests to shape political thought and actions of Government and other authorities whose activities affect pest management and public health.
  • Act as the lead external face and voice of the Association and the industry, in relation to the government, media, environmental groups, public health bodies, and other external agencies.
  • Ensure membership growth through active engagement and retention strategies, supported by a regular programme of membership recruitment and professional development initiatives.

 

Requirements include:

  • Demonstrate excellent all-round association leadership capabilities, including the ability to set strategy, agree priorities and deliver through coaching, developing and motivating the team.
  • Proven skills to influence at executive/board level with the ability to guide debate and discussion to support efficient decision-making.
  • Exceptional and persuasive communicator, impactful speaker, and attentive listener with the ability to engage diverse stakeholder groups.
  • Ability to exercise close and proper management of the Association's finances to ensure results are delivered and diligently reported in line with agreed Business Plans and processes.
  • Experience of identifying opportunities for enhancing services to members, particularly in professional development and technical support.
