Not-for-Profit Housing Association seeks a new PR/Press Officer!

The Organisation
Ellwood Atfield has partnered with a leading not-for-profit housing association in search of a new PR Officer to join their London office! This organisation works with residents to provide affordable housing and support to help them lead a high quality of life.

The Opportunity
The Public Relations Officer focuses on both proactive and reactive media relations, promoting and protecting their reputation as part of their press office team. You should be able to spot a good news story and proactively develop PR stories to support their priorities. These stories should root the organisation in their neighbourhoods and increase the visibility of their work. You'll also work on complex issues at the heart of the UK's housing crisis and develop topical articles that help them to influence the national agenda.

Key Responsibilities

  • Building upon their brand, reputation and influence
  • Writing and implementing communications plans for projects
  • Gathering information to inform responses to media enquiries and contributing to a calendar of national and local stories
  • Contributing to the delivery of strategy to produce positive media coverage
  • Researching, writing, and pitching in press releases, working with colleagues to gather information
  • Generating ideas for comment pieces to promote the organisation and what they do
  • Supporting the delivery of events and roundtables
  • Producing information and briefs for speaker opportunities
  • Supporting speaker opportunities at external events, managing a calendar of these, developing relationships with conference organisers
  • Maintaining the relevance of, and keeping up-to-date, the Corporate Affairs calendars, speaking with colleagues in the regions to ensure the latest news
  • Managing media monitoring in terms of the system, alerts, and running regular reports on team metrics
  • Contributing content for their social media channels
  • Ensuring PR activity is evaluated against key messaging
  • Be part of an on-call rota, taking media enquiries and triaging them out of hours

Key Requirements

  • Previous experience working in a media relations role
  • Previous experience working on housing issues, with an understanding of national housing policy and stakeholders
  • A creative and proactive approach to your work
  • An ability to work on sensitive issues
  • Strong relationship-building skills with colleagues and stakeholders
  • Strong understanding of what makes a good news story
  • Excellent written communications
